Italy


Italian peninsula that spreads deep into the Mediterranean Sea represents the major part of the Italian republic. It has a shape of a boot, and with it's islands Sicily and Sardiniacloses 4 seas: the Adriatic Sea on the north east, the Ionic sea on the south east, theTyrrhenian Sea on the south west and the Ligurian Sea on the north west. On the north part is situated the river Po valley and it's affluent rivers that comes down from theAlps, the Apennines and the Dolomite mountains.
   


The highest mount of Italy is Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc) on 4810m of height. Italy has 3Vulcan's: Vesuvio near Naples, Etna on Sicily (active one) and Stromboli located on the homonymous island.
Italy is known for its art, monuments and culture. The most famous monuments are thetower of Pisa and the Colosseum in Rome.
Italy is known also as a significant rice and vine producing state, and along with Spain is one of the leader nations in olive oil producing in the whole World.
The main city is Rome, which has been funded, according to a legend, the brothers Romul and Remo raised by a female wolf.

  

Italy is also famous for it's gastronomic offers (pizza, pasta), such as for fashion, vine, opera and design centre. 20 regions that include 103 provinces and 8000 counties compose Italy.
Each region has it's characteristic that distinguishes it from the others.
The region of Abruzzo is characterised with medieval cities and numerous castles. The region is rich of natural beauties and history, and the mass tourism is still o it's beginnings.
The Aosta Valley is the smallest and most rarely inhabited region of Italy. Aosta Valley is an Alpine valley and it is a large winter sports centre. The agriculture ed the tourism, especially the rural one, are the main economy activities in this region.
Calabria is a south Italian region and it incorporates the head of the Italian "boot" and with the island of Sicilly closes the passage of Messina.
One of the administrative regions is Emilia - Romagna that is situated on the north part. The region has a very developed industry, especially the food industry and the car industry (Ferrari) and of course the tourism.
Lazio is a central region. It's one of the most important Italian regions as far as history, arts and culture in generally is concerned.
The region that economically is the most developed one is Lombardy in which are situated the most significant Italian lakes: Lago di Como, Adda and Lago di Iseo.
One of the most beautiful regions in Italy is for sure the Tuscany, which is located in the central part of the peninsula and has more than 120 protected natural areas. The well known destinations are Florence, Lucca and Maremma.
                                       


 
One of the most known region, because of it's artistic and cultural beauties, is Veneto. Veneto borders with the repubblic of Austria, and the regions of Lumbardy, Friuli -Venezia Giulia and with Emilia - Romagna. The colosseum that is located in Verona is known in the entire World as locations where opera's and concerts are held. The city of Abano terme is known for it's thermal waters, while the other known locations are Jesolo, Cortina D'Ampezzo, Lake of Garda and Venice. From this region are coming the many famous vines, and this is the region that is more oriented on cultural tourism.
Sardinia is one of the most beautiful Mediterranean Island and the second one, for its surface, in Italy.
Another region that is distinguished from the others is Sicily. It's the largest one in the Mediterranean and it's known as a tourist destination and a agriculturally developed region.
Pulia is a region on the south east of Italy. The agriculture is one of the most important activities in this region. Here are growing olive trees, grapes, cereals, figs and tobacco. During the last Years the industry is developing rapidly. The main city is Bari, administrative centre of the region. The Salento peninsula, that is a part of the region, represents the heel of the Italian "boot".
One of the most significant region of Italy is for sure Campania which main city is the famous Naples. The name of the region comes from the Latin Campania felix which means happy region.
Piedmont is one of the littoral regions of Italy. The main city is Turin. The region is significant because is surrounded by the Alps. On the mount Monte Viso is located the source of the river PO. The Piedmont is one of the most known region in Italy thanks to its vineyards. In the neighbourhood of Turin is located the known car factory "Fiat".
The region of Trentino-Alto Adige/Sudtirol is one of the autonomous regions of Italy. The tourism here is very developed, especially the ski tourism, which is very popular. The fertile valleys favour the cultivation of the vine, of the fruit, the production of milk-made goods and wood products.
Liguraia is a coastal region and it's one of the smaller regions in Italy. Liguria lies on the Ligurian Sea with one part, while for the other on the Tirrenian Sea, which has favoured a significant growth of the tourism.
The Marchs are located in the central part of the Italian peninsula with Ancona as the Main City and administrative centre. The Marchs are known for the shoe industry, the furniture and mechanic industry and the naval one. Beside them the tourism sector has also developed thanks to numerous coastal and artistic centres.
Molise is another region of central Italy known for an impeccable cuisine with specialities of high level. One of the most known products are the olives.
Basilicata, meridian region, in which inner zones are a significant agriculture producing area, while the coastal one is characterised with vine and fruit area. The tourism of Basilicata is based on two typologies: historic and cultural ones and coastal-tourism.
The region of Umbria represents the heart of Italy. Umbria is the only region, located on the peninsula that has no direct connection to the sea. Along the tourism Umbria is known as an agriculture, handicraft and industry region.
In the end there is Friuli Venezia Giulia, autonomous region with special status on the northeast of the boot. In the region prevails the sector of the industry, the cereals cultivation and the vine growing. Regarding the tourism we can freely say that the region of Friuli- Venezia Giulia offers both: mountains (Dolomites and Juilan Alps) and tourist locations on the shore.
It's considered that Italy is one of the most popular destinations in the whole Europe. It's known for it's marvellous history buildings, the recognisable cooking and a variety of tourist offers. All this facts contribute to the thing that Italy is one of the European and world locations that was visited once, leave a strong impression on You forever
